From Smartphones to printers (and pretty much every tool or gadget we can think of) the world has gone mad for wireless.
We have become accustomed to living and moving without cords; without the limits of short or spaghetti junction-like leads, and we are loving it!
Most things in life are easier (and safer) when wires are out of the picture. So why should mowing our lawns be any different?
If you find yourself wishing you had an extra 10-metres of cable while you’re mowing (or you’re constantly kicking the cord out of the way), it’s fairly obvious that a cordless mower will solve your problems.
But perhaps you have been reluctant to part with your classic, cable-run grass gobbler just in case these modern, battery-operated mowers don’t quite make the cut. Will you be left with a flat battery half-way around your garden? How easy are cordless mowers to manoeuvre? Can they really make your life easier and produce quality results?
To help answer your questions, we shine the light on our favourite cordless lawn mowers and assess their performance, convenience, and value.

Let’s take a look at our best picks:
Practical and powerful for effortless cutting.
We were promised the highest in class performance and that is exactly what we got with this dream of a mower – plus a little extra sprinkled on top!
If you are anything like us, you like a product that is quick and easy to assemble. This one was up and ready to go in no time (and when we say go, we mean go!). Thanks to its powerful 18 V lithium-ion battery system and brushless motor technology, this beast of a mower delivers a high-quality cut with hardly any effort. Its high-performance blades produce a sharp finish and you can realistically expect to mow your lawn in about a third of the time it would usually take.
Mowing a flat lawn is one thing but tackling rocky terrain is another! Where others would “crash and burn”, this mower takes it all in its stride. Don’t be fooled by its light weight (which is a real pain-saver on the back, by the way!); this nimble design is incredibly robust, and its 25cm high rear wheels turn those pesky humps and bumps into a walk in the park.
This mower feels like it has been made to look after you – it even comes with an adjustable ergonomic, foam handle bar, an easily detachable 50-litre bag and a low noise design that will save you from getting into trouble with the neighbours!
When you’re investing in a battery-operated product you want a power supply that you can rely on. This mower gives you two – plus a dual charger thrown in on top. We love the fact that the batteries charge quickly, and they come with a convenient percentage indicator. Add to that a decent running time of up to 36 minutes and a handy traffic light system to display the charge, and you have a really dependable tool on your hands.
- Quick and easy to assemble
- Lightweight design for effortless manoeuvring
- Respectable running time for larger sized lawns
- Not the cheapest option
Delivers a lot more than you would expect for the price.
When it comes to getting “more bang for your buck”, this powerful mower is hard to beat!
If D.I.Y is not your thing, this easy-to-assemble mower will be right up your street. At first glance, this mower looks a little toy-like, but we were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to put it all together. The “on” switch was a little hard to press, but that is a small gripe for such a good quality product.
This nimble little number makes it a pleasure to cut your grass without the constant hazard of tripping or mowing over wires. Do not be fooled by its somewhat flimsy appearance, this mower cuts like a beast! Thanks to its 40V lithium-ion 2.5Ah battery and 32cm cutting width, the Yard Force lives up to its name and produces high-end results on even the most unkempt lawns. With five adjustable cutting heights, this very capable mower can effortlessly cut through the wildest of gardens and it comes with a rear roller for those of you who like that flawless, striped finish.
Battery-wise, this powerful mower offers a very decent mowing time of up to 25-minutes and its super-speedy charger will give a complete charge in 75-minutes.
As soon as you start pushing it over the grass, you will notice how light and easy to manoeuvre this mower is. If that wasn’t enough, the 30-litre hybrid grass collection bag comes with a full level indicator and compresses the grass for less bending and emptying.
- Produces excellent results even on the most challenging lawns
- Quickly charges the batteries
- 30-litre hybrid grass collection bag reduces the need to bend
- Looks a little “toylike”
- The “on” switch can be difficult to get going

This dual product is impressive. If you are looking for a combination product that gets the job done, this cordless mower and trimmer ticks all the boxes.
First, the 34cm mower simultaneously uses two 20V WORX batteries for added power and a longer runtime. But that’s not the best part – its Intellect technology adjusts the speed and power to your grass conditions. This means constant cutting power, whatever the thickness of your grass. We also liked the single-lever, five height cut settings and the unique deck design that enabled us to cut right to the edge with ease. And of course, we shouldn’t leave out the rear roller for that professional striped appeal.
Convenience-wise, the mower is light and easy to lug around the garden. If we are being critical, the design is slightly long, but it makes up for that by being foldable and easy to store. The 30-litre grass collection box also reduces the amount of bending you need to do, which is always a bonus on the back and knees!
Next, there is the trimmer, which operates as two tools. With a simple 180 ° turn of the head, the trimmer becomes a practical edger – perfect for anyone who desires that clean and flawless finish.
What we noticed about the trimmer is how user-friendly it is. The built-in flower guard works wonders in preventing any damage to flowers and the trimmer also comes with an automatic spool release to ensure you use the correct length to cut . Its 90-degree pivoting head also makes it super easy to quickly trim those hard-to-get-to places. This is a product that really stands out in doing a lot of the hard work for you.
- Multifunctional for a variety of garden needs
- Simultaneously uses two 20V WORX batteries for extra power and a longer runtime
- User friendly and does a lot of the hard work for you
- Slightly long design which can make turning difficult
Designed with the user in mind
There are many reasons why the Greenworks Tools Mower is on this list, and you only have to use it for a couple of minutes to see why.
The first thing we noticed is just how well-built this mower is. Weighing in at just 18 kilograms, you wouldn’t expect such a strong and sturdy product for such a light weight. But this mower feels like it was made to last.
Next to impress us was the five-fold central cutting height adjustment from 25 to 80mm. Being able to mow your lawn at your desired height is a perk that not all mowers provide, especially when the end cut is this sharp and neat. It’s a decent runner too – thanks to its 40V lithium-ion battery technology and 2x2Ah batteries and charger. Many products claim to be “easy to set up”, but with this mower it simply is a case of attaching the battery and off you go. The batteries can be a little tricky to remove, so that is something to bear in mind if you have long nails (or little patience).
If you’re someone who takes a lot of pride in your garden, this user-friendly mower will tick a lot of boxes that others will leave blank. With its two-in-one function, this versatile mower gives you the option of mulching your lawn as well as mowing it. This finely cut grass acts as a wonderful fertiliser, but of course, you can easily switch to the grass catcher any time you like.
Some products are designed with the user in mind, and the Greenworks Tools Mower is one of them. You can realistically expect to cut a good 600 m² of grass on just one battery charge and when you are done, the compact design with its convenient handle makes it easy to carry and store away. This mower is also incredibly quiet, which is a real bonus if you have neighbours.
The only downside to this product is that it doesn’t come with a rear roller, but that’s a small price to pay for such a well-rounded, high performance mower.
- Convenient, practical, and easy to use.
- Mulching option for grass fertilisation
- Delivers a sharp, clean cut
- No rear roller for a striped look
- Batteries can be difficult to remove
Cuts time and effort as well as grass.
When it comes to convenience and practicality, this mower sets the standard.
What initially struck us about this product is how user-friendly it is. Quick and easy to set up with a comfortable handle on the top, we loved the lack of time and effort that is needed to use this mower. It’s incredibly light weight too, and thanks to its close edge cutting design, it’s super easy to manoeuvre around the garden. The dual lever handles which enable ambidextrous use are also a big plus.
Power-wise, this mower has everything covered. Its impressive 40 V battery makes it easy to tackle any kind of lawn and its 30cm cutting width and 25-65 mm cutting height delivers that flawless finish. It even comes with a rear roller if you like that professional striped look.
If you’re keen to save space and time, this product is well worth considering. Its vertical storage design allows it to fit into the smallest of areas and the convenient 30-litre grass box significantly reduces the amount of time emptying grass clippings.
- Dual-lever handles for ease of use, making it suitable for left and right-handed users.
- Powerful 40V battery to take on any kind of lawn
- Convenient, space-saving vertical storage design
- Not as impressive looking as some other designs in its category
How Long Do Cordless Mower Batteries Last?
For many of us, being able to mow our lawns without wires getting under our feet is a luxury. But of course, this means nothing if the battery is going to conk out after just 10 minutes.
The amount of battery life you’ll need will depend on the size of your lawn and how long the grass is but generally speaking, your battery should last you about half an acre before needing a recharge.
Your lawn mower battery should live a decent life of at least five years before you need a replacement.
Are They Worth The Extra Investment?
Throughout the years, lawnmowers have shown drastic improvements in technology, with one of the most beneficial being cordless options.
Putting aside the obvious advantage of having no wires, there are many other reasons that make cordless lawn mowers a worthwhile investment. They are often much lighter to move around and they can be just as powerful as their gas and electric cousins. That’s not to mention that most come with a very respectable battery life and are environmentally friendly.
