Hosta 'Halcyon' (Plantain Lily 'Halcyon')

Hosta 'Halcyon' is a distinguished perennial valued primarily for its foliage rather than its flowers. The blue-grey foliage holds its colour well throughout the season, adn the thick, heart-shaped leaves form a dense, symmetrical clump for cool contrast in shaded planting schemes.

In summer, slender stems rise above the foliage carrying soft lavender flowers which, while not particularly conspicuous, attract pollinating insects. Reaching around 40 or 50cm tall, this is well suited to large containers in shade, as well as to borders, or woodland gardens.

Best grown in moist, fertile growing conditions, this plant benefits from protection from strong midday sun. Water regularly during dry spells and apply mulch liberally around the plant each spring to conserve moisture and aif vigorous, healthy growth.
