Key features

Fagus sylvatica (Common Beech)

Native to southern England and wider temperate Europe, Common Beech can reach up to 30m when left uninhibited.

It is fully hardy, prefers to grow in full sun and will happily grow in almost all soil types, including poorer ground.

The plant features notable catkins which hang from its long stalks and transform into spiky cupules containing beech nuts.

This tree can form a substantial footprint over time - use regular clipping to keep it as hedging.
