Geranium phaeum (Dark Pink) (Dusky Cranesbill)

Dusky cranesbill is a reliable hardy perennial well-suited to shaded and semi-shaded areas of the garden. Its nodding dusky pink flowers appear in late spring and early summer, rising above attractive softly-lobed foliage that often carries subtle markings.

Forming an upright clump reaching around 60-90cm in height, it adds some vertical interest to woodland edges and informal planting schemes. The flowers are loved by pollinating insects.

This cranesbill thrives in well drained soil, though it tolerates heavier and moister soil more readily than many other Geraniums. Low maintenance and easy to grow, it can be cut back after flowering if you wish, though this is not strictly necessary.
