Libertia grandiflora, also known as New Zealand satin flower, is an elegant, evergreen perennial with upright, sword-like leaves and pure white flowers borne in the late spring. It brings structure and year-round interest to sunny borders or gravel gardens.

Libertia grandiflora (New Zealand Satin Flower)

Libertia grandiflora is a graceful perennial plant from New Zealand valued for its upright, sword-shaped green foliage that creates strong architectural lines in the garden. In late spring to early summer, clusters of starry white flowers appear above the leaves, adding a luminous display.

Reaching around 60 to 80cm in height, it forms dense, tidy clumps of foliage that provide year-round texture and structure. As the season progresses, decorate seed heads develop, extending its ornamental appeal well beyond flowering.

Best grown in a moist but well-drained soil in full sun, it prefers a sheltered position protected from harsh winter winds and is only hardy in the most sheltered, southern, coastal regions of the UK.
