Luzula nivea is an evergreen, perennial plant grown for its neat clumps of dark green foliage and airy sprays of tiny white flowers. The frothy blooms appear in late spring to early summer and bring brightness to shaded borders and woodland areas.

Luzula nivea (Snow Rush)

Snow rush is an evergreen grown for its evergreen foliage and its frothy white flowers. The blooms seem to hover above the leaves and catch the light beautifully, making them a good choice for areas with lower light levels.

This perennial can be grown in partial or even full shade, and is unfussy about soil type, as long as it has moist but free-draining or free-draining growing conditions. It is low maintenance and resilient, suited to a range of shady positions.

Growing to around 40-60cm tall, it forms compact, gently arching mounds that bring softness and movement to shaded beds or borders, or in naturalistic woodland style planting. The flowers look good indoors too - they are used for cutting and drying.
