Aquilegia vulg. stel. 'Ruby Port' (Columbine 'Ruby Port')

Unlike many other columbines, the flowers of this cultivar are spurless, forming layered rosettes that look a little like small pompoms held above the delicate, divided foliage. The cultivar's flowers, a deep rich red, bring depth of colour to beds or borders of cottage garden plantings in the late spring and early summer.

Growing to around 80cm in height, this columbine variety prefers a moist but well drained soil. It will thrive either in full sun or partial shade and once established, can self seed and form attractive natural drifts.

Attracting bees and a range of other beneficial insects, this can be a good addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
