Fresh heart-shaped leaves emerge in a hue of bronze in spring before settling to green.

Barrenwort is a choice for dappled shade along paths and at the base of taller plants. It grows steadily and will 'weave' between neighbouring perennials without dominating them.

Spreading gradually to form a low carpet around 25-30cm tall, it's incredibly effective as groundcover.
