Key features

Hosta sieb. 'Frances Williams' (Plantain Lily 'Frances Williams')

This plantain lily variety creates an impressive focal point in shaded borders and woodland style planting. It is a hardy perennial that is grown for its large, textured blueish-green leaves with broad, irregular, creamy-yellow margins.

Forming a substantial clump reaching around 60-80cm in height, it adds strong structure and contrast among finer-leaved plants. In early to mid-summer, the tall stems carry pale lavender flowers above the foliage, providing a little additional seasonal interest.

Best grown in moist, fertile soil in partial to full shade, it benefits from shelter from harsh sun and drying winds. Apply mulch in spring to retain moisture. Like other hostas, this plant provides edible shoots and leaves in spring.
