Mahonia media 'Winter Sun' (Oregon Grape 'Winter Sun')

As its name maybe indicates, 'Winter Sun' provides valuable winter nectar for bees and other pollinating insects when few other shrubs are in flower. Flowers are followed by ornate dark blue berries.

Hardy throughout most of the UK (RHS H5 rating), it grows in full or part shade; tolerating a wide range of soil types. It's even fine with exposed positions, making this an incredibly versatile plant.

Serious pests and diseases are rare with Mahonia. Over a few years of growth this plant should form a dense evergreen appearance amongst mixed borders.
