Matteuccia struthiopteris is an AGM fern also known as shuttlecock fern or ostrich fern. Like many ferns, it works well in shady spots, and it is also particularly useful for very wet and waterlogged locations.

Shuttlecock fern, also known as ostrich fern, is a deciduous fern that grows to around 1.5m tall and up to around 1m wide. It is native to many parts of the temperate to boreal Northern Hemisphere, though not the British Isles.

This is a fern that likes shaded, sheltered locations, and thrives in moist to wet growing conditions where the soil is neutral to acidic.

If you have a problematic, shaded and boggy or flood-prone area in your garden, this could be a good plant choice. It can look good, adding a nice structural form and attractive foliage for even challenging garden areas.
