Molinia caerulea ssp. caerulea 'Heidebraut' is an ornamental grass with deep purple, spiky, narrow leaves that mature to a golden-yellow colour by autumn. Dramatic in colour and strongly architectural in form, this grass stands to a height of around 1.2m.

Molinia caer. 'Heidebraut' (Purple Moor Grass 'Heidebraut')

Purple moor grass 'Heidebraut' is an attractive grass that forms tussocks of foliage and upright stems holding plumes of purple flower clusters/ seed heads on deep purple, almost black stems. It grows around 1.2m tall, and spreads to around 50 cm.

It can grow well in full sun or partial shade, in any soil as long as it is sufficiently free-draining and not too alkaline. Neutral or acidic soils are preferred.

Though it is extremely hardy and suitable even for exposed locations, it cannot cope with waterlogging. Generally pest and disease free, it can be propagated by means of division in the spring.
