Polystichum polyblepharum (Japanese Lace Fern)

This East Asian fern forms a compact mound and will spread quickly in the right conditions. New fronds emerge in a soft yellowy-green colour before deepening to a firm dark green.

The bipinnate fronds of the Japanese Lace Fern give hefty texture at ground level, where many ornamental plants would struggle for presence in the lower light.

IOffer tyhis plant shaded conditions and it's happy - including in shallower or poorer ground. It can even be grown under trees and shrubs where other plants would fail to establish themselves.
