Prunus lusitanica is a large evergreen shrub or small tree, mostly grown for privacy screening. It has smooth leaves on red stems and develops white early-summer flower racemes, that transform to dark purple berries towards the end of the year.

The perfect plant for those dense evergreen boundaries, Portuguese laurel develops a sturdy structure that can be maintained as a hedge or allowed to grow into a substantial tree.

With time, plants can exceed 10m+ in height and spread widely. Long racemes of small white flowers in early summer are followed purple fruits.

Aim to plant in a sunny area and prune regularly in late spring or early summer if you'd like to keep growth under control.
