Stachys monieri 'Hummelo' (Alpine Betony 'Hummelo')

Alpine betony is a strong, long-flowering perennial admired for its dense spikes of rich, pinky-purple flowers. Appearing from early to mid summer, the upright blooms create a bold vertical accent in mixed borders.

Reaching around 50-60cm in height, it forms compact clumps of dark green, lightly textured foliage that offer an attractive base for the vibrant flower spikes. Of course, all those blooms draw in plenty of pollinators to a garden.

Best grown in a well-drained soil in full sun, it is hardy, reliable and easy to maintain. Just deadhead spent flowers to prolong the display, and cut back faded stems after flowering to encourage new growth and a tidy form.
