Dicentra spectabilis (Bleeding Heart)

Commonly known as bleeding heart, Dicentra spectabilis is a much-loved spring flowering perennial admired for its distinctive and romantic pendant, heart-shaped pink flowers which also have white inner petals. The blooms hang in neat rows above the soft, divided foliage.

Bleeding Heart prefers a humus-rich and moist growing medium which is neutral to alkaline, in partial shade. After flowering the foliage may die back in summer.

Flowering from mid to late spring, this plant creates a charming cottage garden feel and combines beautifully with ferns, hostas and other shade-loving plants. It typically reaches around 60-90cm in height.
