Liriope muscari (Big Blue Lilyturf)

Liriope muscari, also known as big blue lilyturf, is a dependable grass-like perennial valued for its neat clumps of arching, evergreen foliage. In the late summer and early autumn, upright spikes of purple flowers rise above the leaves, followed by small, dark berries.

With a height of around 30-45cm, it forms dense, slowly spreading clumps that work well as groundcover underneath shrubs or along shaded pathways. It is a useful structural plant due to its year-round foliage.

This perennial does well in partial or even deep shade, in moist but free-draining soil that is acidic or neutral. This is an adaptable and relatively low-maintenance plant.
