Miscanthus sinensis 'Ferner Osten' is a clump-forming, deciduous, ornamental grass. It has green foliage that turns russety in autumn, and red, feather-like flower panicles that fade to a pinkish, silvery hue.

Miscanthus sin. 'Ferner Osten' (Eulalia 'Ferner Osten')

Eulalia 'Ferner Osten' grows to around a metre and a half high. The narrow leaves with arching shape turn from green to reddish in the autumn, and early winter. The feathery flowering panicles in red - paling to pink and silver - add additional visual interest.

This ornamental grass needs a site in full sun, with moist but free draining, or free-draining, reasonably fertile soil. It cannot cope with winter waterlogging so good drainage is crucial, especially over the winter months.

Useful for its visual appeal and architectural form, this grass can be a focal point in a range of gardens. It requires little maintenance and is generally free from pests and diseases.
