This switchgrass cultivar is prized for its visual appeal, combining the lush green foliage, turning red in autumn, with the delicate flowering stems holding many delicate purplish spikelets.

This ornamental grass does best in full sun, though it can also grow in partial shade. It will thrive in a reasonably moist, reasonably fertile, free-draining soil. This is a hardy grass, suited even to exposed locations.
