Vaccinium macrocarpon 'Pilgrim' is the 'American Cranberry' - the most recognisable type and one of the best for the garden, bearing large red fruits. A low trailing evergreen, its tiny pink flowers in summer give way to autumn berries. As the weather cools later in the year, the cold turns the leaves a brilliant bronze colour.
