Veronicastrum virg. 'Album' (Culver's Root 'Album')

Veronicastrum virginicum 'Album', a cultivar of culver's root, is a graceful, architectural perennial which is admired for its tall, slender spires of pure white flowers. Blooming in the middle of summer, the elegant flower spikes rise well above the foliage, providing a strong vertical accent.

Growing to around a metre to a metre and a half tall, it forms upright clumps of narrow, mid-green leaves arranged in distinctive whorls along sturdy stems. You'll find plenty of bees and other beneficial insects buzzing around these blooms.

Perfectly happy to full sun or partial shade, in a moist but well drained, fertile soil, this plant does best where moisture is consistent. Leave cutting back until early spring to benefit winter wildlife.
